Rain, and Flood In Lagos Nigeria

I’ve thought about this for quite some time now. In as much as we have a not-so-good government, but we literally cannot keep blaming them for everything!

Lagos is one of the most populated cities in the world, and since it's got good opportunities for businesses, it's no doubt why many people chose to move to Lagos. Besides the hectic traffic, flood is another disadvantage of living in Lagos.

Main causes of flooding in Lagos is global climate change, poor urban planning, urbanization, and anthropogenic activities. Urban flooding has been and will continue to be a significant problem for many cities across the developed and developing world.

Other developed countries do have floods when there’s a heavy downpour, but the difference between them and Lagos - Nigeria, is a good drainage system!

We are our problem in so many things. How does one comfortably throw trash into a drainage in the middle of the night when no one is watching, and call it being smart?

At the end of the day, what happens? The drainage gets filled up or blocked, and when rain comes, there’s no channel to carry the flood, and water will always find a way hence it’s all over the roads, and people are trapped, and boom we blame the government!

It’s like continuously filling your water closet with sanitary pads, or filling your bathroom drainage with hairs when you shower! Someday it’s going to get blocked, and when you flush, or shower, everything will come rushing up. It’s a terrible sight to behold, right?

When you look at these floods, you’ll see they’re filled with all the debris from these drainages! It’s an actual overflow!

We need to start holding each other accountable for certain situations within our control!

Take a look at Lekki, and other places on the island! From the name alone, it’s obvious we are surrounded by water, and when the drainage systems are blocked, we expect a miracle?

There's literally no space in Lagos! People create shops with containers on top some drainage, and probably fill it up with concrete. I understand we all have to survive, but why build on top of a drainage? Lagos landlords build houses on every space they can find, and charge a ridiculous amount of money without even creating a good drainage for those houses, nor caring if they're building on the wrong soil!

A little digress, I’ve literally seen someone throw a water satchet out of the bus to the road where an elderly woman was doing her job — sweeping! Why? Because he thinks it’s her job, and that makes it okay for him to litter the road because she will sweep it.

Let’s do better as humans! No be everything be government fault, but if they have rules in place with serious repercussions, most of these issues will be curbed!

This is my two cents 😊

9 Psychological Facts About Love

Let me start by saying that I'm not a love nor a relationship expert; but I've found these to be true. Growing up, I never questioned what love is because I had a lot of it from my family; and I'll simply tell anyone that love is genuine care, and selflessness.  I once read a Christian book that said that Agape Love  is the purest form of love, but I'm not defining what love is, or is not, today! Below, I'll be sharing some psychological facts about love especially for romantic relationships . Photo Credit : Unsplash

I Do Not Conform

This is just one of those topics I didn’t think deeply about; just some random thoughts on a random rainy cold night, put into writing! You ever scrolled through social media, and saw one of those posts that say “A woman is 'supposed to'….”? Oh my! How much I detest stuff like that.

How Living A Private Life Can Make You Stronger And Happier

Sighs...  We live in a generation where people feel like, or think that if you aren't posting nor sharing almost every moment of your life on social media, then nothing good is happening to you; and you're sad. I’ll be sharing this based on my personal experience; but let me explain what it means to live a private life. It means not sharing every personal detail about your life publicly. However, privacy is not the same as secrecy because people often confuse the two. Also, living a private life doesn't mean that you shouldn’t ask for help when you're in dire need of it. As an introvert, I keep most personal stuff to myself; but I used to trust easily until I learned the hard way. I learned that not everyone means well for you; and the scary part of it is that you may never know.  Photo Credit: Deposit photos
